2020年度JMSA 奨学金受賞者のお知らせ

Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to give 13 scholarship awards to our healthcare professionals in training this year. Below are the awardees of the JMSA scholarship 2020, along with their proposed scholarship projects.

Nishioka – JMSA Scholarship

  • Sana Fujimura, Albert Einstein College of Medicine
    • Project: Engaging Japanese health care professionals in discussion of the importance of music therapy in the healthcare field. 
  • Shiori Ucheya, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia
    • Project: Hosting online workshops for Japanese youth in the South who are interested in medicine
  • Teru Hayashi, Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry
    • Project: Organize the Annual Virtual JMSA Scholarship Mentor-Mentee Meeting, Fall 2020
    • JMSA Member Event: Walk for Charity (Postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19)

Honjo – JMSA Scholarship

    • Project: Investigation of dermatological disease presentation among Japanese people who currently reside in Japan vs. Japanese diaspora. 
  • Kotaro Tsutsumi, University of California, Irvine School of Medicine
    • Project: Creation and translation of fact sheets regarding Asian American biculturalism and COVID-19
  • Shohei Burns, UCSF School of Medicine
    • Project: Healthcare and Education for Japanese-Americans in San Francisco

Mitsui USA – JMSA Scholarship

  • Rei Yamada, Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University
    • Project: Online information about obstetric care in the US vs. Japan: Content analysis of blogs.”
  • Rie Sato Seu, Albert Einstein College of Medicine
    • Project: A multi-tiered mentorship program for Japanese and Japanese-American students and professionals in medicine

Kuro Murase, MD – JMSA Scholarship

  • Takeo Fujii, Northwell Health/Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
    • Project: Creating a website sharing experiences with physicians in Japan to be successful in fellowship matching through JMSA network

Nippon Life – JMSA Scholarship

  • Motoki Yasuda, Harlem Hospital
    • Project: Expansion of the activities by Japanese Association of Pediatrics in North America
  • Sei Higuchi, Columbia University
    • Project: Organizing the intensive training camp “Gasshuku” for career development

Raymond Sekiguchi MD – JMSA Scholarship

  • Sam Rashkovich, Weill Cornell Medical College
    • Project: Practicing Medicine in Japan with an American MD, and the Challenges Therein
  • Ruri Kitada, New York Medical College
    • Project: To update the JMSA scholarship past recipient database and foster alumni engagement
