{"id":101179,"date":"2015-04-27T19:11:54","date_gmt":"2015-04-27T19:11:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jmsa.org\/?p=101179"},"modified":"2018-04-05T21:46:52","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T21:46:52","slug":"jmsa-shadowing-program-report-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jmsa.org\/ja\/2015\/04\/27\/jmsa-shadowing-program-report-1\/","title":{"rendered":"JMSA Shadowing Program Report 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\">\n.featured-thumb {\n    display: none;\n}\n.single-wrap .single-inner-content {\n    margin-top: 0px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<p>\n\tJMSA Shadowing Program Report 1<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMessage from Christina Theodorou:<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThrough the JMSA Shadowing Program, I was able to shadow Dr. Erich Anderer [JMSA mentor], a Japanese-American neurosurgeon practicing at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn.&nbsp; I watched as he performed an laminectomy on one of his patients, and got a chance to see a spinal cord for the first time (aside from my anatomy cadaver!).&nbsp; As a student at Northwestern&#39;s Feinberg School of Medicine, I haven&#39;t had the chance to rotate through a community hospital and it was very interesting to talk with Dr. Anderer about the differences between large academic centers and community hospitals. Through the JMSA Shadowing Program, I was able to spend a day one-on-one with an attending surgeon, in a field I may not have had the chance to explore otherwise.
