2016 Kumamoto Multi-Earthquakes: JMSA Japan Relief

On April 14th and 16th, 2016 6.2 and 7.0 magnitude earthquakes occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture resulting in significant damage to the region. At least 41 people have been killed, thousands injured, and tens of thousands have been evacuated from their homes due to the disaster.

In light of the recent disaster, JMSA is raising funds to support victims and contribute to relief efforts in the area. The goal of the fundraising efforts would be to provide support to an organization that will directly aid those in need. We are currently considering the most effective relief activity and organization to support as we have done so with the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

Donations can be made directly to JMSA Japan Relief efforts using PayPal. If you would like to make a donation, please use the above link. All of the proceeds will go towards relief activities in Japan.

In the past, JMSA has raised $170,000 to support rebuilding efforts in northern Japan following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. JMSA sent donations to Kokoro no Care and its related activities, which is a community mental health outreach program led by multidisciplinary mental health experts at Fukushima Medical University. To date, we still continue to work with them closely in making significant impact to the region’s recovery.  With your support, we hope to be able to extend our support to Kumamoto.
