Event Recap:
The wonderful lecture was held on 10/21 Wednesday at the Nippon Club. Dr. Kimihiko Oishi gave an excellent introduction and he was the MC for this program that was very well attended by physicians and members of the community. Dr. Masahiro Sonoshita gave an eye opening, thought-provoking lecture that described what cancer is, the mechanisms that lead to cancer, and the history of how people have fought against cancer based on such information. He also explained what oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes are and their critical roles in cancer development. He pointed out key figures in world history that have developed cancer treatment to our current state.

He finished his lecture discussing the significance of his ongoing work to generate novel chemical drugs for thyroid cancer using fruit flies in his research lab at Mount Sinai. His lecture made it clear that his work was extremely meticulous and would not be possible without his dedication to science and patience and persistence.

The lecture was very exciting with interactive slides. Dr. Sonoshita kindly explained complicated scientific concepts with visual aids making it very easy for all to understand the highly complex processes that he is working on in his lab at Mount Sinai.

JMSA extends a sincere thank you to Dr. Masahiro Sonoshita for giving us an unforgettable lecture.

The JMSA healthcare lecture series committee welcomes suggestions for lecturers and topics for our upcoming 2016 lecture series.
