First JMSA Student Social at Soba Totto

JMSA and its student members held its first JMSA Student Social on Saturday, April 11, 2015. The event was held at Soba Totto in Midtown, Manhattan, followed by a Karaoke night.

With help from Mr. Kano, JMSA student members organized this event: Kenji Fujitani, Alisa Prager, Kenny Nakazawa, Yoshiko Toyoda, and Machiko Yamamoto.

12 medial students representing various medical schools in New York City, including Mount Sinai, Cornell, Columbia, NYU, and Downstate, gathered and it was a huge success. During the event, students exchanged their experiences on clinical rotations, preparation for boards, and life outside of academics. Many non-JMSA student members also joined us for the night, and were introduced to JMSA activities including the scholarship program, JMSA student activities/projects, and future events such as the JMSA Life Science Forum, Annual Spring Dinner, and mentorship and shadowing program.

Alisa Prager expressed her excitement on the success of the gathering. “The first ever JMSA student social provided a great opportunity for medical students to network and meet other students in the New York City area. We were able to raise awareness about JMSA's many activities and recruit new members to the organization. Overall it was a success and we hope to have another event in the near future.”

With interest in continuing the student social by all the attendees, we hope to hold another one this fall with support from JMSA.
