written by Maki Kano On April 30th 2005, the Japanese Medical Society of America held its 33rd Annual Dinner Celebration at the New York Athletic Club. Over 160 people attended the event. The evening started off with a great cocktail party. At the start of dinner, the co-chairpersons, Maki Kano, M.D. and Naomi Hayashi, M.D. welcomed the guests. Dr. Shunichi Homma, the President of JMSA then gave opening comments and presented a JMSA Award of Appreciation to Mr. Hiroshi Tada of Mitsui USA Inc. for his vision and commitment to supporting the Society. He also presented this award to Dr. Tatsuji Namba for his long-standing contribution to the Scholarship Fund in honor of Dr. Seiichi Shimomura. Dr. Makoto Iwahara presented the JMSA Achievement Award to the late Dr. George Nagamatsu. His wife, Mrs. Nagamatsu accepted the award in their honor. Ambassador Hiroyasu Ando from the Consulate General of Japan also gave a speech. Dr. Yuzuru Anzai presented the Scholarship Awards. Amy Turitz, (Mount Sinai Medical School) and Sumie Iwasaki (Columbia University, College of P & S) were each presented $2500 from the Mitsui U.S.A. foundation/JMSA fund. Yuka Yamaguchi (University of Michigan School of Medicine) was presented an award for $2500 from the JMSA Scholarship Fund. Dr. Mitsumasa Kishimoto, (NYU Medical Center) was presented $2500 JMSA Fellows award. He is currently a fellow in Rheumatology at NYU. Karl Zheng (Columbia U, College of P & S), and Jay Starkey (University of California/S.F.) were also presented with awards. The evening was highlighted by music from the Jerry Kravat’s Manhattan Rhythm Machine and by a dynamic performance from Taiko Masala. The guests enjoyed bidding for items from the silent auction to raise proceeds for the JMSA General Fund. The Japanese Medical Society of America extends its deepest appreciation and gratitude to all the generous contributors and to all the participants of the evening. picture below: JMSA Achievement Award presentation to Mrs. Nagamatsu in honor of the late Dr. George Nagamatsu, who was one of the founders of JMSA and one of our most influential Presidents in the past. He was an extremely influential urologist during his career.
